24 Trending Ecommerce Products You Should Sell In 2024

What products will be trending in 2024? Think of the needs of post-pandemic life. This is the overarching theme running through the top trending ecommerce products for 2024.

If there’s anything that united the world recently, it was the global pandemic of 2020 and its subsequent community quarantines, which caused major changes in everyone’s lives.

We all learned to adapt to staying at home far longer than we wanted to, to take better care of our health in all ways, to appreciate home and family and pets, even to make more babies, to extend our living spaces to our cars, to rely on our phones and the internet more, to adapt to working from home, and to appreciate natural environments more when we could go out of our homes.

While doing our research among trusted e-commerce authority sites to come up with the top trending e-commerce products for 2024, this is the connecting story that emerged: how we’ve carried what we had to live through and learned from the pandemic forward to post-pandemic life now and in 2024.

What Is Selling In 2024?

Pagefly, Shopify’s ecommerce page builder, lists these: clothing, car accessories, phone accessories, baby necessities, and beauty products.

Foundr, a global media and education company for entrepreneurs, lists these top seven trending products in 2024: pet accessories, baby necessities, home comforts, work-from-home (WFH) attire, outdoor leisure, car care, and plant-based products.

GWI (formerly GlobalWebIndex), an audience research company, points to seven lifestyle and wellness trends driving consumer behavior in 2024:

  1. Convenient fast food

Pre-pandemic, consumers were as likely to be eating fast food as they were to go to a restaurant, but since the pandemic, consumer tastes have shifted to favor more fast food that could be delivered to them for their convenience. Globally, 29% more fast food eaters said they were more likely to buy food online, especially when there are click-and-collect delivery and guest check-out features.

  1. Declining consumer health

Since the end of 2020, there has been an increase in various health conditions, with more Americans reporting chronic or severe pain (+38%), depression (+37%), backache (+24%), and high blood pressure (+11%). Consumers are starting to see their health as an investment, with the self-care industry becoming a huge market.

  1. More consumers being proactive about their health

2024 will see a continued growth of a fairly new type of consumer called the “proactive health manager” – one who actively takes preventive measures to manage their health. This means more consumers focusing on taking care of their mental and physical health through active self-care and personalized health care. Demand for products and services in these niches is also expected to grow.

  1. Consumers tracking data on their physical, digital, and mental health

With the rise in smartwatch ownership and apps that help consumers track their health data, there has also been a rise over the last two years in Americans tracking their screentime (+21%), spending (+16%), sleep (+13%), exercise (+12%). Generally, people are looking to monitor their physical, digital, and mental health as they take care of their everyday wellbeing.

  1. More consumers want food and drink with probiotics

Numerous stressful crises impact digestion. Stomach-cramp complaints have also been growing relatively fast among fashion-conscious groups such as Balenciaga owners, champagne drinkers, and regular luxury buyers. Sales of drinks containing probiotics have been soaring. Probiotic ingredients such as yogurt, kimchi, kombucha, and miso are likely to gain the attention of these audiences.

  1. Restrictive diets losing steam

Consumers are being less restrictive in their diets, moving towards more flexitarianism. There’s a potentially profitable opportunity to target consumers who are stepping into but are not yet committed to a purely plant-based lifestyle. These are those consumers who are interested in reducing their meat consumption for better health and nutrition but are not yet fully into veganism.

  1. A premium on mental health and overall wellbeing

All have a stake on addressing mental and physical wellbeing. Even the United Nations Human Development Report has described these times we live in today as being in “uncertain times, unsettled lives,” emphasizing mental distress as a barrier to human development.

GWI also points to a new phenomenon that marketers never anticipated before the pandemic: Baby Boomers doing more scrolling and shopping.

According to GWI’s senior trends analyst Stephanie Harlow, “In 2016, brands were told to forget millennials and focus on Gen Z. Four years later, they were advised to forget millennials and Gen Z and make room for the next bunch… Not only are Baby Boomers spending more time on social media and regularly buying online, but their spending power is unmatched.”

Boomers have been found to shop online far more frequently since the pandemic, motivated by convenience and the safety of delivery. Around a quarter of Boomers’ top purchases are electronics (27%), entertainment (25%), and clothing (20%). Boomers are looking for valuable products from brands they can trust with high-quality customer care. So, retailers are encouraged to establish their expertise and trustworthiness, as well as excellent customer service.

Meanwhile, according to Oberlo, Shopify’s drop-shipping company, although China remains the biggest ecommerce market, the fastest-growing ecommerce markets are mostly in Asia, with only three in North and South America. The top ten countries, with seven in the Asia-Pacific region, are:
